Men's Health Starts With Prevention

Warren Jones, Epidemiologist, is encouraging men to take a more active role in protecting their health through regular checkups, preventive care, and prostate cancer screening.

Prostate cancer is one of the most common cancers affecting men, but early detection can make a meaningful difference. Routine health visits give men an opportunity to talk with a healthcare provider about their personal risk factors, family history, recommended screenings, and any changes they may be experiencing.

Too often, men wait until something feels wrong before scheduling an appointment. Preventive care is about getting ahead of potential health concerns before they become more serious.

Men are encouraged to:

  • Schedule regular health checkups
  • Talk with a healthcare provider about prostate cancer screening
  • Know their family health history
  • Ask questions about changes in their health
  • Follow recommended screening guidelines based on age and individual risk
  • Encourage other men in their families and communities to do the same

Taking care of your health is not something to put off. A simple conversation with your healthcare provider can be an important first step toward prevention, early detection, and a healthier future.

The Institute for the Advancement of Minority Health is committed to increasing awareness, improving access to preventive health information, and encouraging men across Mississippi to make their health a priority.
