Strengthening Maternal & Child Health Through Education, Engagement, and Community Partnerships

The Tougaloo College Maternal & Child Facilitated Groups program is a comprehensive initiative designed to improve maternal and child health outcomes in rural and underserved communities. Through structured learning sessions and community-driven engagement, the program equips participants with the knowledge, tools, and resources needed to address health disparities and support healthier families.

Participants take part in a seven-session curriculum focused on critical topics that impact maternal and child wellness. These sessions explore maternal and child health challenges in rural communities, examine the role of social determinants such as income, education, and environment, and provide practical training on using epidemiological data to develop effective health campaigns. The program also emphasizes health communication strategies, coalition building, community outreach, and improving health literacy to empower informed decision-making.

By fostering collaboration among community leaders, healthcare professionals, and families, the Tougaloo College Maternal Health Collaborative helps create sustainable solutions that promote equitable access to care and strengthen support systems for mothers and children. Through education, advocacy, and partnership, the initiative works to build healthier communities and improve long-term maternal and child health outcomes.
