Director, Office of Finance and Accounting
Location: Ridgeland, MS
Reports To: Chief Executive Officer

About the Institute for the Advancement of Minority Health (IAMH)
The Institute for the Advancement of Minority Health (IAMH) is a nonprofit organization committed to promoting public health equity by addressing health disparities that impact racial and ethnic minority communities. IAMH collaborates with community partners, healthcare providers, and public agencies to advance health literacy, improve access to care, and implement culturally relevant health interventions.
Position Summary
The Director of the Office of Finance and Accounting serves as the chief financial steward for IAMH, responsible for strategic financial management, fiscal integrity, and compliance across all organizational operations. This role oversees budgeting, financial planning, accounting, grant fiscal management, and reporting functions to ensure IAMH’s financial sustainability and accountability to stakeholders, funders, and regulatory bodies.
The ideal candidate is a mission-driven leader with a strong background in nonprofit financial management, grant accounting, and federal compliance, and a passion for advancing health equity.
Key Responsibilities Strategic Leadership
- Provide strategic direction and oversight for all financial functions, including accounting, budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, and compliance.
- Serve as a senior advisor to the Chief Executive Officer and Board of Directors on financial planning, risk management, and long-term sustainability.
- Develop and implement financial policies, internal controls, and systems that align with IAMH’s strategic goals and regulatory requirements.
Financial Management & Reporting
- Lead the preparation and management of annual organizational budgets and multi-year financial forecasts.
- Oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting to management, the Board, and funders.
- Ensure timely and accurate preparation of audited financial statements and tax filings.
- Monitor cash flow, investments, and reserves to maintain financial health and liquidity.
Grant & Contract Fiscal Oversight
- Manage all financial aspects of grant and contract awards, including budget development, expenditure tracking, and compliance with federal, state, and private funder requirements.
- Collaborate with program and grants staff to ensure fiscal integrity and alignment with project deliverables.
- Maintain compliance with Uniform Guidance (2 CFR 200) for federal awards.
Internal Controls & Compliance
- Maintain and strengthen internal control systems to safeguard assets and ensure financial transparency.
- Oversee compliance with GAAP, IRS regulations, OMB requirements, and other relevant nonprofit accounting standards.
- Support organizational audits and serve as the primary liaison with external auditors and financial institutions.
Team Leadership & Capacity Building
- Supervise finance and accounting staff, providing mentorship, professional development, and performance management.
- Promote a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement within the finance team.
- Work cross-functionally to build financial literacy across departments and enhance decision-making.
Qualifications Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible experience in nonprofit financial management, including federal grant administration.
- Demonstrated expertise in GAAP, nonprofit accounting, and OMB Uniform Guidance compliance.
- Proficiency with accounting and financial management software (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage Intacct, or similar).
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Proven ability to manage multiple funding streams and complex budgets.
- CPA or equivalent professional certification.
Preferred:
- Master’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or Public Administration.
- Experience working in public health, community health, or equity-focused nonprofits.
